美术也就是指的是在创作中占有一定的平面或者是空间，而且它还具有可视性的艺术，一般的绘画、雕塑、设计、建筑等都是和美术有着不可分割的关系的，现代的学者们还把一些书法和摄影也归在了美术这个领域里。
美术也是最早发展与欧洲的17世纪，还有的人认为它的正是出现在18世纪中期，从中国的五四运动前后流传入中国开始随着时间慢慢的运用。美术的类型可以分为绘画、雕塑、工艺、建筑、书法、篆刻、设计、和新媒体摄影等类型。
