历史学在国内是基础学科，但在美国等国家也可称之为是历史社会学，是近几年教育界新兴领域，隶属于社会学；这门学科侧重于对社会现象的探索和研究，专业人士强调，在研究社会现象的同时必须要参照历史。历史学专业通常要求每一位学生能够充分的了解和学习世界历史基础知识，并且要掌握人类文明的一般发展历程，甚至是世界历史研究方法。
课程设置
历史学专业研究的内容主要包括国际经济学，历史地理学，国际关系学，史料学，世界通史，世界各主要国家和地区史，外国语以及文化人类学等。
就业方向
